Last weekend saw hundreds of Sevens converge on Donington Park from all over Europe to celebrate the Seven's longevity ,and we did so by showing off our cars to each other (no two are alike ) , bemoaning Brexit to our EU friends (well ,that's what I did anyway ) playing silly buggers with our cars on the tarmac lake at Donington and admiring the Museum's collection of Formula 1 and other racing cars. Oh , and there was Kevin Wheatcroft's unsettlingly large collection of WW2 Nazi militaria to inspect too, if you like that sort of thing . Me ? Not so much, but I am over thirteen ...
Lots of racing going on too , with various types of Caterhams being hurled round the circuit with varying degrees of skill. Formula Ford 1600 too, showing yet again that the recipe for good single seater racing doesn't need either slicks or wings . What about Formula 4 Ecoboost , you say ? Get outta here ...
Just a bit of a shame that the anniversary ended up comprising separate events flying in loose formation rather than one big event .2500 members of the Lotus Seven Club and every single one is an unpaid ambassador for the Seven, I wonder when Caterham will twig how much value we add to the ..ahem..brand ? A damned sight more than Caterham's ill fated venture into Formula 1 ever did , that's for sure .
